Song I Recommend

I don't recall where I first heard of Locksley, or who I should accredit for sending them my way, but I thank you random blogger. These NY rockers, by way of Wisconsin, describe their sound as "Doo-Wop Punk." I describe it as fun. I recommend checking out "The Whip" by clicking on the pic below, and while you're there stick around for "Oh, Wisconsin!"

Song I Recommend

If you haven't had a chance to check out Iron & Wine's new album, Kiss Each Other Clean, I highly recommend it. Definitely some really good stuff. You can hear most of the album HERE, and below is one of the tracks I love, called "Your Fake Name Is Good Enough For Me." Enjoy!

Song I Recommend

This song had me very literally from the first note. As a clarinet player, any song that starts with clarinet awesomeness gets my attention.

Doomtree, her label, claims her sound introduced "a unique sensibility to underground hip-hop: literary, bitter-sweet, and wry," and that across the her album, False Hopes, she alternates between "a clever, droll persona as an emcee and her earnest, unaffected delivery as a singer with a low, clear alto voice." That pretty much sums her up, and I'm definitely a fan.

Check it out below, and as always, click the pic to head to her MySpace.

Song I Recommend

"When My Time Comes" by Dawes

I saw this video on another blog forever ago, and I really enjoyed it, but I didn't LOVE it as much as that blogger predicted I would. Then, just yesterday I heard it on The Current, and I was like "what is this?!" Maybe the video distracted me from how wonderful this song is, I don't know. It's a good video, but maybe consider pushing play then shutting your eyes.

If you like the song, you can download it for FREE on RCRDLBL. If you're in Chicago, Dawes is playing The Metro on March 12 with Deer Tick and Middle Brother (MB is a supergroup of members from Dawes, Deer Tick and Delta Spirit).

Song I Recommend

Thanks to loudlooppress, I recently discovered Antony Ablan's newest track, "Gold Rush." It has a big-beat bluegrass feel to it, and I love it. Like me, while he resides in Chicago now, he's a Wisconsin native. :) Check it out HERE, and as always, click his pic to visit his MySpace.
